Jennies softball splits final day of UAM 7-State Classic

(BENTONVILLE, Ark.) – Jennies softball (6-6) split a pair of games on the final day of the UAM 7-State Classic, winning the first game against Oklahoma Panhandle 4-3 before dropping the finale against Southwestern Oklahoma State, 7-3. The Jennies went 3-3 in the tournament to move to 6-6 overall on the season.
In the first game, against the Oklahoma Panhandle Aggies, the Jennies went into the seventh inning trailing 3-2 before Kristen Heil walked in the tying run on a bases loaded walk. Ashlea Bengtson then stepped up to the plate and delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to center field for the 4-3 come-from-behind win.
Jakki Prater earned the win for the Jennies, improving her record in the circle to 4-1 overall.
In the final game against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State, the Jennies plated two runs in the fourth courtesy of Bengtson and Heil and another in the sixth from Jordan Marble, but that was all as they fell to Southwestern Oklahoma State, 7-3.
Jessica Wilkes took the loss in the circle, dropping her record to 1-1 on the season.
The Jennies are idle until March 1 when they travel to Joplin, Mo. to take part in the Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament.
