Tigers gear up for district basketball

By McKAYLA WELLS
The Warrensburg Tigers took home the co-championship title after two games last week. Tuesday night, the boys defeated Center for the first time since 2010.
“We played as a team and put trust in each other’s shots,” said Jacob Terry.
Center came out hot in the first quarter, and the game looked like a tough one. Then, Dakota Jones helped turn things around with a six-point play. After getting fouled, he received two free throws, got a technical and received two more. While rebounding, he was fouled again to receive two more free throws.
“Defense in the second quarter was strong,” Terry said. “They only scored four points and we scored 28 points.”
Friday night, the Warrensburg Tigers basketball regular season landed with a thud with a 68-50 drubbing at the hands of the Sedalia Tigers. Sedalia held Warrensburg top shooter Dakota Jones to only 11 points.
“They took away Dakota, “said junior Cameron Horn. “When we got behind we settled for quick shots.”
The Tigers came out hot in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 14 points, but Sedalia responded, led by a 21- point effort by Dante Scroggins. Despite the loss, the Warrensburg Tigers are conference co- champions for the first time since 2006, “It’s a really big deal for us,” said Horn.
The Tigers will begin district play Thursday against the winner of Pleasant Hill and Clinton.
