Mules baseball has had to be flexible and patient with its schedule the past few weeks because of weather. Staying committed to playing their style of baseball has been the focus during the downtime.
“We are determined to do things the way we would like to do it,” Myers said. “We prepare every day to stay sharp mentally.”
The Mules (18-4, 15-3) have had 10 games cancelled because of weather, and others have been rescheduled. Yesterday’s MIAA doubleheader at Southwest Baptist (9-14, 9-10) was originally scheduled to be at home Tuesday.
The Mules won game one 3-2 in eight innings, while SBU won game two 8-6 in 13 innings.
“The whole conference is in the same boat, weather-wise,” Myers said. “At this point, everyone is up to speed.”
The Mules are second in the conference standings behind Missouri Western (19-4, 14-1), and are scheduled to play a three-game series at fourth-place Central Oklahoma (16-10, 13-10) this weekend, and at fifth-place Lindenwood (12-13, 11-9) Wednesday for a doubleheader.
Redshirt junior pitcher Kurtis Schuyler, who is 2-1 with a 4.38 ERA this season, is scheduled to start a game against Central Oklahoma. He explained what missing games meant for him.
“Coach has always told us to prepare, and always think ahead and be ready for the upcoming game,” Schuyler said. “The delays mean you might have to throw a long bullpen session instead of a game.”
A doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday in Edmond, Okla., while the third game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. Wednesday’s doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
