Billy Dean “Bill” Lynde, 73, of Leeton, Missouri, died Friday, Jan. 11, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at High Point Baptist Church in Leeton with Pastor Cliff Dudley officiating. Interment will follow the service in Mineral Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Shackelford, Joe Shackelford, Seth Shackelford, Todd Lynde, Kent Lynde, Dean Dohrman, Curt Glover and Curt Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Powers, Jimmy Thompson, Clyde Lynde, Larry Paxton, Howard Evans, Earl Lee Shackelford, Tony Shackelford, Ray Shaeffer, Butch King, Bruce Bratton, Steve Ditty, Bob Nussbaum, Larry Mohler and Lloyd McCarter.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
Bill was born on Sept. 5, 1945, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Irvin and Irene (Chism) Lynde. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Bill married Carol Sue Shackelford on July 12, 1968, in Warrensburg, Missouri. They had two sons, William and Robert. They lived in the Leeton area and celebrated their 50th anniversary in July 2018. He was a lifetime member of High Point Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed farming, and buying and selling implement equipment. One of his favorite pastimes was attending and watching his sons and grandsons participate in sports.
Bill was a special friend to many people during his life. He never met a stranger and enjoyed assisting whenever there was a need or a project to do.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bob and Jim Lynde.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Lynde, of Leeton; son, Robert Lynde, of Leeton; son, William Lynde, his wife, Dana, their son, Connor, and their foster children, Josh Kauffman, Joe Kauffman and Aaliyah Kloeppel, all of Lincoln; sister, Judy Baker, of Lecanto, Florida; aunts, Ilene (Chism) Saxton, of Kansas City, Missouri; and Eilene (Garske) Chism, of Timonium, Maryland; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Contributions may be made to High Point Baptist Church in Bill’s honor. Checks can be left in care of the funeral home.
