Lynnette Yagel Yearns, 69, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Sunday, Nov. 4, at Western Missouri Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Lynnette was born on Sept. 11, 1949, in Brookfield, Missouri, the daughter of Edd Stewart Yagel and Claribel Beason Yagel. She graduated from Brookfield High School, class of 1967. She attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville and graduated with an Elementary Education degree in 1971. She went on to earn her master’s degree in library science from Central Missouri State University. She was a library assistant at James C. Kirkpatrick Library at UCM and was in charge of the children’s collection and the historical children’s collection. She started there in 1990 and retired in 2017.

Lynnette enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her kids and grandkids. She was a passionate Chiefs fan. She loved revisiting her Brookfield roots at every opportunity. She loved animals – especially her pet lamb. She was an avid reader and puzzle-player. One of her favorite things to watch on TV was Jeopardy! and even got her family to watch with her.

Lynnette is survived by her daughter, Laura Yearns, of Warrensburg; son, Spencer (Kristi) Yearns, of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Lana (Ryan) Penniman, of Warrensburg; son, Clayton (Joseph) Yearns, of Raymore; grandchildren, Domonique Yearns, Jasmine Barton, Joey Robbins, Kayley Yearns, Loren Yearns, Clara Penniman, DeMarco Yearns, Ethan Yearns and Edden Penniman; great-grandchildren, Ashton Robbins, Za’Niyah Taylor and Brayden Robbins; brother, Ed (Linda) Yagel, of Hinton, Iowa; twin sister, Jeannette Johnson, of Seward, Nebraska; and brother, Scott (Joyce) Yagel, of Carrollton, Texas; sister-in-law, Wanda Yagel, of Maryville, Missouri; feline companion, Jimmy Remington Yearns; former husband, Ron Yearns, of Independence, Missouri; and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, Stewart and Claribel Yagel; brother Gene Yagel, of Brookfield, Missouri; and brother-in-law, Melvin Johnson of Seward, Nebraska.

Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 8, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. A graveside service took place Friday, Nov. 9, at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

In honor of Lynnette’s passion for animals, contributions may be made to Old Drum & Friends Animal Shelter and checks may be left in care of the funeral home.
