Samuel Jay Ramsey, 60, died Oct. 2, in Sedalia, Missouri.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Oct. 5, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Basye and Pastor Sandra Feeler officiating. Interment followed the service in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bryan Lucas, Jerry Morgan, John Dodson, Mike Barnett, Bob Fisher, and Kenneth O’Neal. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Joseph and Hal Hanrahan.
Family received friends from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the chapel.
Sam was born July 25, 1958 in Warrensburg, the son of Gael D. Ramsey and Virginia (McFerrin) Ramsey. He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in the class of 1976. In high school, he excelled at wrestling and was on the varsity golf team. He was accepted into the University of Missouri on an Evans Scholarship, and graduated in the class of 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. During his college years, he worked as a suite waiter during Chiefs games at Arrowhead Stadium. He also hit his “hole in one” in golf while in Columbia.
After college, he worked in the banking industry and later was a salesman for computer software. He was most recently with McKesson HBOC Inc. of Springfield in the software sales division. He was a resident of Sedalia since 1999.
Sam enjoyed golfing at every opportunity. He loved spending time in the great outdoors and was a huge fan of the MU Tigers. He could often be found spending time with family and friends or listening to classic rock music.
Survivors include son, Nicholas Ramsey, of Los Angeles, California; daughter, Claire Ramsey of St. Louis, Missouri; mother, Virginia Ramsey of Sedalia; brothers, Lynn Ramsey of Houston, Texas, and Gael Ramsey II of Sedalia; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gael D. Ramsey and his sister, Nancy Whalen.
Contributions may be made to the Missouri Brain Injury Association or Crossroads Hospice. Checks may be left in care of the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice both of Sedalia for their care and attention shown to Sam over the years.
