Mules golf falls to Malone in match play quarterfinals

(ALLENDALE, Mich.) — The Mules golf team fell to Malone University 4-1 in the NCAA Division II Match Play quarterfinals at the NCAA Championships at the Meadows Golf Club on Thursday morning.
With the loss, UCM ends the season in a tie for fifth place in NCAA Division II golf.

Alex Springer posted the Mules’ only victory of the day, shooting a two-over par 73, defeating Jay Hollifield by 10 shots. Cy Moritz shot a 76 and fell to Nate Tarter of Malone by seven strokes.

Teddy Jones shot a five-over par 76 and fell to Tyler Light by five strokes, while Travis Mays dropped a nine-stroke match to Jon Clark and Robby Hughey lost by two strokes to Garrison Myles.

UCM wraps up the 2013-14 season finishing tied for fifth in NCAA Division II. The Mules captured two tournament titles this season and were the MIAA regular season and tournament champions.
