Ella Fern Null

Ella Fern (Rains) Null, 91, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Kingswood Manor in Kansas City, Mo.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Reverend Jackson Short officiating.

Interment will be private at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice or Trails Regional Library, and both can be left in care of funeral home.
Fern was born Jan. 18, 1923 to Don Wesley and Grace Mildred (Dalton) Rains in rural Benton Co., Mo.
On April 18, 1949, she married Russell Leone Null in Ionia, Mo.   They lived briefly in Windsor and Kansas City before moving to Warrensburg in 1954.  Russell preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1978.
Fern graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940 and received her BS (1962) and MS (1969) degrees from Central Missouri State College.  She taught rural schools in Benton and Pettis counties before her marriage. Fern later taught at Warrensburg schools, mostly the sixth grade from 1962 until her retirement in 1983.  She had previously been a resident of Harmony Gardens in Warrensburg for eight years and recently a resident of Kingswood Manor in Kansas City, Mo.  She was a member of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church.
Fern is survived by her son David G. Null of Madison, Wis.; her daughter-in-law, Ann of Overland Park, Kan.; her two grandchildren, Eric (Christine Cecala) of Horseheads, N.Y., and Emily (K. J. Miller) of Overland Park, Kan.; one great-granddaughter Annabelle Miller; her two brothers, Calvin (Gladys) Rains of Kansas City, Mo., and Gene (Erma Jean) Rains of Overland Park, Kan.; her sister, JoAnn O’Dell of Raytown Mo.; her sister-in-law, Maxine Rains of Windsor, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, D. Kim Null on Sept. 1, 2010; four brothers, Ervin, Don, Leon, and Monte Rains; two sisters, Lois Cason and Ruth Griffith.
