(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — Central Missouri junior Frank Cagnina was named MIAA Wrestler of the Week after capturing the 149-pound championship at the Midwest Classic last weekend.
The Hillsdale, N.J., native went 5-0 during the tournament, including four bonus-point wins and two wins over ranked opponents. Cagnina won his first match with a 20-5 technical fall and followed it up with a pair of major decisions, 15-4 and 11-0. In the semifinals he recorded a 4-2 comeback win over sixth-ranked Edwin Cooper of Upper Iowa.
In the finals, Cagnina beat No. 4-ranked Cameryn Brady of Indianapolis by an 8-0 major decision. In his last two tournaments, he has wins over the Nos. 1, 4 and 6 ranked wrestlers in NCAA Division II.
