WHS presents 'Bye Bye Birdie starting Thursday

By Adrienne Sauer
The Warrensburg High School Theatre Department is presenting “Bye Bye Birdie” Thursday through Saturday at the high school. Curtain opens at 7 p.m. for all shows. The 1950s-era production chronicles the life of popular rock ‘n’ roll star Conrad Birdie, who is being drafted into the Army. Die-hard fans are crushed by this announcement, and the rock star’s agent, Albert, struggles with his plans for the future.
The play is a depiction of the 1963 film by the same name that starred Anne Margaret, Janet Lee and Dick Van Dyke.

Albert Peterson (senior Nolan Fontaine) attempts to persuade reporters that Conrad Birdie (sophomore Kaden Callahan) is an All-American boy. Photos by Tim Richner.

An adoring throng of Conrad Birdie fans lift the star as he sings to the town of Sweet Apple, Ohio. Conrad Birdie is portrayed by sophomore Kaden Callahan.

Conrad Birdie (sophomore Kaden Callahan) sings his new hit, “One Last Kiss,” on the Ed Sullivan Show before leaving for the war.
