Barbara Ann Skidmore, 80, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Manor Care Nursing Home.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. Neil Wolfe officiating. Pallbearers will be Derek Skidmore, Ethan Skidmore, Jacob Skidmore, Luke Skidmore, Natalie Skidmore and Tom Russell.
A visitation is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the funeral home.
She was born June 4, 1932, in Fayetteville, Mo., and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and Johnson County, Mo.
During her lifetime, Barbara attended Pleasant Bethel Baptist Church, and actively participated in her faith by volunteering for many teaching and leadership needs in the church and by sharing her beliefs and love with anyone she encountered.
In 1951, Barbara met Clifton Skidmore at the Warrensburg Skating rink, and on Dec. 14, 1952, she married him at the First Christian Church in Warrensburg. Barbara said her most vivid memory of that day was the smile Cliff had as he watched her walk down the aisle. During her lifetime, Barbara worked as a mother and homemaker, as a clerk at the Johnson County Assessor’s office, and with her husband in running the farm.
She is survived by her husband, Clifton Skidmore, of Warrensburg; her four sons, Jim Skidmore and wife, Karen, of Greenwood, Mo.; John Skidmore and wife, Maureen, of Hudson, Wis.; Bob Skidmore and wife, Jo; and Herb Skidmore and wife, Candice, all of Wichita, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, Emily, Jenna, Lucas, Derek, Chandra, Jacob, Ethan, Natalie, Meredith and Caroline; and two great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Hazel Dyer, of Warrensburg, and a granddaughter, Marcy Skidmore, of Greenwood, Mo. She leaves behind two brothers, Bill and Mark Dyer, and three sisters, Jane Russell, Candy Robertson and Pam Dyer, all of Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Bethel Baptist Church or the Lottie Moon Offering and both can be left in care of the funeral home.
