Gary Wayne Jones, 87, of the Pittsville Community, died Thursday, Oct. 19, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Rev. Rob Allen of Holden United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg, with Full Military Honors provided by Holden Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post 5844 and Munday-Hancock Post 90, American Legion.
There will be a Masonic Service 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the funeral home, immediately followed by visitation from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Gary was born July 5, 1930, at the Lundy Homestead, in Jackson Township, Missouri, near Kingsville, son of Carl Clifford Jones and Viva Grace (Slack) Jones. He graduated from Holden High School, Class of 48 and served in the United States Army in Korea. Gary was united in marriage to Myrtle I. Hensley on Nov. 26, 1954, in Sedalia, Missouri. The couple resided in Warrensburg for several years prior to relocating to Leeton, Missouri, and the Elm Community. During those years, Gary worked at the Ford Plant at Claycomo, Warrensburg, West Water Plant, Stahl’s Specialty, Assistant to Bill Chisler Water Well Drilling, bartender at Pine Street Tavern in Holden, truck driver for Phillips Oil and also Leprino Cheese and Montgomery Ward. In 1979, the couple moved to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and Gary started driving an OATS bus. Upon retiring from OATS, the couple moved to Belton to be near their daughter. They eventually returned to the Pittsville area and Gary also resumed driving for OATS.
Gary was the first commander of Holden VFW Post 5844. He served as VFW District 6 Commander from 1978 to 1979. He also served as All-State Commander of VFW, Post 3600 at Climax Springs. He was a member of Holden Masonic Lodge 262, AF & AM, Ararat Shrine, Scottish Rite and also, Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 3.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; daughter, Deanna Jones, both of the home; sister: Betty J. Garrett of Oak Grove, Missouri; brother: Virgil J. Jones and wife, Shirley of Arlington, Texas; Brother-In-Law: Walter Borer of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Donna Borer and Judy Austin and two brother-in-laws: Gary Garrett and William Austin.
