Marian Lee Roberts, 96, of Holden, Missouri, died Sunday, July 24, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Holden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steven House officiating. Interment will follow in the Holden Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Marian was born May 5, 1920 in Humboldt, Kansas, the daughter of Leslie Henry Sims and Anna (Hall) Sims. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Joseph A. Roberts on Nov. 22, 1941, in Independence. The couple raised their two sons, J. C. and Charles A. on a dairy farm in the Lee’s Summit, Missouri area. Marian was employed at Unity Village and also, a title company in Kansas City at one time. More recently, she and her husband owned and operated a Western Auto & Furniture Store in Blue Springs, Missouri, for many years.
Upon retiring, Marion and Joseph purchased a small farm near Eldorado Springs, Missouri, where they resided for more than 32 years, making many memories and great friends for life. She moved to Holden in September of 2007 to be near family after her husband’s passing.  Marion loved people, and she also possessed a great love for animals. She owned and showed horses her entire life. As a child, she did trick riding with Rodeo Kids. She also showed and rode horses at Gibson Stables in Independence for many years. She enjoyed following youth activities. Marion was an active member of Holden United Methodist Church. Her hobbies also include making quilts and oil painting.
Survivors include her son: J. C. Roberts of Lee’s Summit; daughter-in-law: Patsy Roberts of Holden, Missouri; grandchildren: Philip Roberts and wife, Tammy “Sam” of Holden; Debra Studt and husband, Rex of Lee’s Summit and E. G. Roberts and wife, Teri of Independence; great grandchildren: Christina Hess and husband, Brandon; Tracy Milliron and Ryan Roberts and wife, Kayla; and great-great grandchildren: Lauren Hess, Anna Hess, Gabriel Milliron, Alexis Roberts and Tucker Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph and her son, Charles.
A special thanks to her caregivers, Brenda Stumpff, Arline Aldrich and Crossroads Hospice for their tender and loving care.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Holden United Methodist Church or Holden Senior Center.
