Marvin Andrew Rhodes

Marvin Andrew Rhodes, 97 of Donna, Texas, formerly of Chilhowee, Missouri, died Monday, May 26, at his home in Texas.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Brother Alan Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg. Pallbearers will be Gerald Chambers Jr., David Collins, Joe Shackelford, Lynn Gudde, Bruce White and Bob Gray.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Oakie Thomas, Bobby Cross, Glen Smith, Loyd Simmons and Lesley Stinson.
Marvin was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Chilhowee, the only son of Ernest and Beulah (Chambers) Rhodes. He graduated from Warrensburg High School and earned a degree at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. He lived most of his life around Chilhowee. He married Dorothy F. Evans on July 1, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas. They enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage before she died in February 2004.
When Marvin was a young man, he lost his right hand in a farming accident. However, he didn’’t let this stop him from doing whatever he wanted to do. He sold farm equipment and raised cattle. In later years, he decided to start grain farming. Marvin bought his own semi-truck to haul his grain and he could go through the gears better than someone who hadn’’t lost a hand.
He is survived by his cousins, Gerald Chambers and wife, Rosalyn; and Lavonne Chambers Thomas and husband, Oakie.
