Wendell Booker, 64, of Warrensburg, died Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard and Pastor Douglas Fritts officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday afternoon until service time Thursday at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association and can be left in care of the funeral home.
He was born January 20, 1949, in Oakland, Calif., the son of Alfonso and Bennie Booker.
On February 12, 1972, he married Ethelda “Kathy” Campbell in Oakland, Calif.
Wendell was a product of the Oakland school system.  After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1970, serving in the Vietnam War, and retired after 24 years with rank of Master Sergeant.  Wendell attended Central Missouri State University and graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees during his retirement.  He then worked in retail for many years.  Wendell had many pastimes including gardening and cooking, but knitting was his passion.  He entered his worked into the Missouri State Fair every year and won numerous accolades.  Many families and friends have afghans that Wendell knitted as he always gifted his work to loved ones.  He was also a doting Papa to his four grandchildren.  Papa could not resist spoiling them as much as he could.  Wendell enjoyed rousing conversations with anyone he met.  He was quick with a funny story and always shared his contagious laugh and easy smile with good company.  His family has known him as a proud and strong man who overcame health setbacks time and again without complaint.  Wendell will be remembered by his family and friends including his wife, aunt, children, grandchildren, nieces and his puppy, Zoey.
Wendell is survived by his wife “Kathy” of the home; one daughter Angela Comer and husband Thomas of Randallstown, Md.; one son Brian Booker and wife Amber of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers James and Keith Booker, both of Oakland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Alexis and Jarek Booker, and Xavier King, all of Blue Springs, Mo., and Lillian Comer of Randallstown, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
