UCM student receives Gilman Scholarship for study abroad

University of Central Missouri junior Justin Drouin, an international studies major from Blue Springs, has been selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship – sponsored by the U.S. Department of State – to participate in study abroad or international internship program during the summer of 2013.
Drouin – the son of Stacy Drouin, of Blue Springs – will depart May 17 to study Arabic and Islamic politics at Moulay Ismail University in Meknes, Morocco through June 23. Drouin is one of more than 700 American undergraduate students from 270 colleges and universities across the U.S. who were selected to receive the scholarship.
Gilman Scholars receive the scholarships to apply towards their study abroad program costs. Drouin is among a limited number of students also will receive additional funding for language study through the Critical Need Language Awards, for a total award of $8,000.
With the announcement of the new scholarships for this summer, the Gilman Scholarship Program will have offered more than 2,800 scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year, the largest annual number of Gilman awards to date.
