One of the biggest concerns of many college students is having enough money to afford food. With papers due, tests to take and reading to go through, the last thing anyone wants to do is worry about cooking a meal. Having an affordable takeout place to order from is paramount to academic success. We offer you Ping’s Hibachi.
Featuring traditional American-Chinese dishes such as beef and broccoli, and American-Japanese sushi such as the classic California roll, there are options for every intrepid foodie. On our visit to Ping’s, we attempted to review the most expensive and least expensive items on the menu: the Spicy Sushi Combo, which was $17.95, and the Egg Drop Soup, which was $3.25
Unfortunately, neither of us wanted to try the Spicy Combo due to not having the palate for spicy food. Offering 24 pieces for under $20, the Spicy Combo can be considered inexpensive.
In place of the Spicy Sushi Combo, Jess tried the Tuna Maki sushi, which was $7.75, and the Crazy Roll sushi, which was $11.25. The Tuna Maki was a simple roll with the main ingredient being tuna. The simplicity of the roll is what made it taste great. The Crazy Roll, consisting of a deep fried roll filled with tuna, salmon, white fish, cream cheese, avocado, and topped with YumYum Sauce and Eel Sauce, was very filling. It was absolutely worth the price.
Additionally, we tried the cheapest item on the menu, Egg Drop Soup. While the soup was not exceptional on its own, combining it with the fried wontons was delicious. For how cheap the soup is and how filling it is, it’s perfect for a quick meal on a budget.
Bella decided to also have the Beef and Broccoli Combo, which was $10.75. It came with Fried Rice and Crab Rangoons. The beef was unbelievably tender but the broccoli was unusually bitter when combined with the sauce. The Fried Rice tasted good but had an odd texture.
But the star of the show was the Crab Rangoons. They came free with the Beef and Broccoli, but by themselves they are $7.25 for an order of six. They were massive and absolutely delicious. The filling was sweet but the crab flavor was still very noticeable. The crust was chewy yet still very crispy. If for nothing else, go to Ping’s Hibachi and try their Crab Rangoons. You will not regret it.
In total, everything cost around $41.25. We found the food to be excellently priced. The Egg Drop Soup is perfect for a quick meal on a budget and the Spicy Sushi Combo is a steal for how much food you get for only $18. Ping’s Hibachi is the perfect place for a good, affordable meal.
