As of 2025, the Tranquility Shop in downtown Warrensburg has been open for ten years and has been considered to be an integral part of the community. The shop is located at 128 North Holden Street and is filled with items such as crystals, mystery bags, essential oils and more.
“It is a mind, body, and soul shop with things that just uplift your mind, your body, or your soul and it’s all interconnected,” said Becky Axton, owner of Tranquility Shop.
The store was opened in October 2015 during Burgfest.
“October looked like a very advantageous time to kick off a business… and so I thought if this helps me, I think it will help a lot of other people too and it turns out it has been kind of a haven for people,” Axton said.
“They’ve got a myriad of items with a lot of different types of stones, teas, herbs and essential oils. I primarily go there for essential oils, medicine, and healing,” customer Lydia Doney said.
The shop is a place Doney would recommend to others around the Warrensburg community.
“Becky is incredibly friendly and even the people who work there are super friendly as well, so if you go in and you don’t necessarily know what to look for, or even know much about Warrensburg, Becky is going to help you out and help you get your foot in the door… and when you walk in, it is very warm and welcoming,” Doney said.
Axton believes the idea behind the shop was to give visitors and the students of the University of Central Missouri a place to explore and find peace and tranquility within their lives.
“I had gotten to a place of extreme stress and burnout that was affecting me personally, emotionally, spiritually and mentally, and when I thought about what brought me back to a place of balance, it was the types of things we carry in the shop,” Axton said.
Along with the staff’s hard work and dedication, the community has also been a huge contributing factor to the store’s success for the last decade.
“I’m in awe that the community has been so supportive and loving and that we’ve done nothing but grow in the last ten years… and that ten years have flown by so fast,” Axton said.
Doney is not the only one to have visited the shop. Essence Elmore, a freshman at the University of Central Missouri, has recently visited the shop as well and adores what it has to offer.
“What first drew me in was the music. It made the environment inside the shop that much more relaxing while looking around. The pricing was very reasonable and it’s a very chill and laid-back environment, very peaceful and not overstimulating for those who prefer quieter areas,” Elmore said.
She believes the store has achieved its success because of the community.
“It has the chance to engage with people in the community who enjoy the more spiritual side of things,” Elmore said.
The shop is a place she enjoys spending her time and she believes others will as well.
“I would highly recommend this shop to my friends and family,” Elmore said.
