Ruth Evelyn (Yoder) Courtney, 93, of Holden, Missouri, died April 16 surrounded by her family.
Funeral Service were 10 a.m. April 20 at Holden United Methodist Church with Pastor Rob Allen officiating. Interment followed at Pisgah Cemetery, North of Chilhowee.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden.
She was born on November 10, 1925 at home in rural Holden to Clarence Edwin Yoder and Eva Elizabeth (Parrott) Yoder. Ruth attended King elementary school and graduated from Holden high school in 1944. On November 17, 1946 she married Earl Leroy Courtney in Magnolia. Ruth was a member of the Holden United Methodist church where she spent many hours working in the kitchen and quilting and she previously played piano for many years at the Magnolia Methodist church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a 4H leader. She loved making dolls and quilts, hunting morel mushrooms, meeting with friends of the Sunny Hour club and caring for her family and many others. She enjoyed a huge garden and growing prize tomatoes and hatching and raising chickens.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Marie Courtney, Clinton, Missouri, daughter Carol Davis and husband Ralph, Holden; son Edwin Courtney and wife Linda, Holden; son David Courtney and wife Ruby, Gladstone, Missouri; son James Courtney and wife Tami, Holden; daughter Janet Sechrest, Kingsville, Missouri; daughter Leigh Peacock and husband Brian, Holden; twin brother John Yoder and wife Frances, Holden; sister Lois Boyd and husband John, Marshall, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, son in law Danny Sechrest, and brothers Ernest, Richard and Donald.
Pallbearers were her grandsons: Doug Davis, Joey Courtney, Mike Best, Norman Courtney, Kevin Davis, Phil Courtney, Scott Courtney and Luke Sechrest.
Honorary Pallbearers were her granddaughters: April Miller, Gwendolyn DeSilva, Julie Courtney, Tammi Whitcomb, Brooke Poe, Abigail Sechrest, Katie Morris and Carolyn Hull.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to Pisgah Cemetery Association or Holden United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
