McKein Michael Burch, 10, died on Friday, April 13, at his residence.A visitation was held Friday, April 20, from 5-7 p.m. at Sweeney-Phillips Holdren Funeral Home. A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m., at Church of Hope, 580 NW 105th Road in Centerview, with Pastor Bill Runyon officiating. Honorary pallbearers wereTrae Wegener-Verdeja, Sam Verdeja, Todd Wegener, Zachariah Wegener, Riley Long, Gaberiel Long, Donald Campbell, and Collin Campbell.
McKein was born May 1, 2007 and joined the family of Sam and Wende Verdeja on Nov. 2015. He happily attended Lakeview Woods School in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
He was a joy to all who encountered him. In spite of cerebral palsy, he thrived on the constant activity in our home and had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed watching Cars (all 3 movies), going to the races, listening to music and giving high fives.
McKein is survived by his parents, Wende and Samuel Verdeja; brother, Trae Wegener-Verdeja; sisters, Chloe Verdeja, Tabitha Verdeja, Cailey Verdeja, and Morgan Verdeja; grandparents, Paul and Donna Rockwell, Claudette Borgan, and Earl “Butch” and Beth Spalding; nephew, Bryson Verdeja; and many extended family and friends.
Memorial contributions are suggested to McKein’s memorial fund with checks made payable to Wende Verdeja, and can be left in care of the funeral home.
