Gregory Michael Sorell, 54, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Friday, Feb. 16.
A celebration of life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the VFW in Knob Noster.
Greg was born Sept. 18, 1963 in Muenchweiler, Germany, son of Albert J. and Ann M. (Gunn) Sorell. He graduated from Averill Park High School in New York. He served as a civilian firefighter and EMT before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a firefighter in both stateside and overseas areas. He was united in marriage to Debra Ann Waters on May 17, 1991, in Sedalia, Missouri.
Following almost 10 years in the military, Greg was honorably discharged. He then worked as housekeeping manager at Whiteman Inn Lodging, and more recently as a custodian at UCM. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree with a Specialization in Education and a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Musical Theater. Greg’s passion was in Broadway and theater. He has performed as a vocalist, dancer and instrumentalist to include New York State Theater Group, Oxford Theatre Group in England and in Tops in Blue. He loved coaching his daughter’s softball team, photography and also served as a judge for the Miss America Scholarship Program for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife, Debra; daughter, Jennifer (Tyler) Moore of Warrensburg, Missouri; mother, Ann Sorell, and sister, Vicki Gauch, both of E. Nassau, New York; granddaughter, Lylah Moore, and niece, Cara (Steven) Brochu of Maine. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert.
