Leroy Hayes Phillips, 78, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died on Thursday, Nov. 30, at home.
A graveside inurnment was be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens, with Pastors John Phillips and Raymond Haught officiating. Following graveside services, everyone was invited to a memorial service followed by a fellowship meal that will be held at Harmony Baptist Church, 805 SE 251 Road in Leeton, Missouri.
Leroy was born Aug. 18, 1939, in Warrensburg, the son of John C. and Nellie F. (Stout) Phillips.
Leroy was a graduate of Leeton High School, class of 1958. He married Phyllis Marie McGirl on Dec. 24, 1962, and to this union were born two children.
Leroy was married to the love of his life, Phyllis, or “Ma,” as he called her. He was a very faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Leroy was a hard-working, creative craftsman who never shied from a hard day’s work or lending a helping hand to others. He passed surrounded by his family and was blessed to live out his life at home, thanks to the loving care of our Preferred Hospice family.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Phyllis of the home; son, John Phillips and wife Angela, of Leeton; daughter, Donna Phillips, of Warrensburg; brothers, Bill Phillips, of Osceola and Tom Phillips and wife Sarah, of Warrensburg; sister, Laverne Warren, of Sedalia; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nellie and sister-in-law, Velma Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Preferred Hospice of Lexington or Harmony Baptist Church and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.
