Joan Nichol, 82, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Thursday, June 9, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, June 13, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Kurz officiating. Interment will follow in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
Joan was born on April 20, 1934, in Logan, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Flora (Holstein) Pfannkuch.
She met Johnny Nichol (the love of her life) while working at Town and Country shoe factory, and they were later married on March 23, 1957.
Joan was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg, the Mary Martha Guild, and the Glendale Extension Club. She loved being a seamstress and was very talented in home decoration. She enjoyed car races of any sort and was known for being the number one fan of No. 27 John Brooks.
Joan is survived by her husband, Johnny, of Warrensburg; five daughters, Brenda Diane Mahnken, of Springfield, Missouri; Rebecca Lynn Silvers (Wayne), of Warrensburg; Flora Ann Thurman (Eric), of Warrensburg; Bobbie Jane Brooks (Donald), of Warrensburg; and Rachel Sue Nichol, of New Port Richey, Florida; sister-in-law Lucille Woodson; sister-in-law Donna Nichol; sister-in-law MaryAnn Pfannkuch; and brother-in-law, Don Kendrick; 13 grandchildren, Wendy Hoskins (Brian), James Hutchison (Desi), Sylvia Wetzel, Jerry Hutchison, Johnny Ray (Becky), Michelle Kline, Amanda Kline, Trent Kline, Linda Wetzel, Clint Silvers, Maria Mahnken, Sarah Atkins and Cole Thurman; six stepgrandchildren, Melissa Mahnken, Amanda Brooks, Joanna Brooks, Matthew Barker, Faith Barker and Caleb Fulton. Joan also is survived by 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and lots of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Pfannkuch; mother-in-law, Florence Ellen (Deardorff) Nichol; brother-in-law, Bob Nichol; brother-in-law, Bob Woodson; sister-in-law, Louise Kendrick; a son-in-law, David Mahnken; and an infant grandson, Charles Lewis Wetzel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and can be left in the care of the funeral home.
