Ida Jane Thurman, 79, of Kansas City, formerly of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 7, at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Kurz officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery in Warsaw with Pastor Jason McCray officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Jane was born July 4, 1936, in Pacific, Missouri, the daughter Ira Nelson Williamson and Claralee (Page) Perry.
She and Charles Norman Thurman were married on Oct. 27, 1956, in Sedalia, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2014.
Jane was a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1954. She worked as secretary for the Warrensburg Water Company and then for UCM Men’s Health and Physical Education and Recreation Department for 10 years. She was the former owner of Pathway Travel, retiring in 2001.
Jane was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She loved traveling, was an avid collector of antiques and vintage jewelry and enjoyed canning from her garden.
Jane is survived by a daughter, Lori Thurman and partner, Cindy Stoneking, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; a sister, Barbara Ann Helverson, of Independence, Missouri; three nieces, Janice Ann Helverson, of Lee’s Summit; and Brenda Noland and Gale Dunn, both of Warsaw; a nephew, Perry Allen Helverson, of Independence; a brother-in-law, Marion Clark, of Warrensburg; and dear friends, Bob and Avanell Hutton, of Warrensburg; and Sam Meade, of Ft. Benton, Montana; and good neighbors, Jim and Sheran Dahman, of Warrensburg.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles N. Thurman; a sister, Dixie J. Smith; a sister-in-law, Blondena Mae Clark; and a nephew, Donald S. Helverson.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Cemetery in Warsaw and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
