Margaret Alice Irvine, 101, of the Pittsville community, died Monday, May 9, at Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center in Lee’s Summit.
A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Enon Baptist Church at Pittsville with Pastor Dwight Decker officiating. Interment will follow at Elm Spring Cemetery north of Kingsville.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Margaret was born March 2, 1915, near Pittsville, the daughter of Fred and Ella “Lena” (Martin) Weide. She graduated from Elm High School. She married the love of her life, Ernest Clinton Irvine, on Sept. 24, 1935, in Oak Grove. The couple operated the post office and grocery store in Post Oak for a brief time prior to moving to Pittsville, where they also operated the post office and grocery store. She lived in the Pittsville community for the majority of her life. During the 1950s and 1960s, Margaret worked as a cashier in Holden at Hunter’s Grocery Store, Price Rite and later, Lloyds. She retired from Lloyd’s to care for her grandchildren. Thereafter, she assisted her daughter and son-in-law in operating The Clothesline store in Holden. Margaret retired to help care for her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Enon Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and also a vacation Bible school helper for many years. Margaret was a charter member of the Pittsville Homemakers Extension Club, past member of Enon Senior Encouragers, and W.M.U.
Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Hensley and husband, Donnie, of Holden; sister, Maxine Kile, of Greenwood; two grandsons, Darren Ray Hensley and wife, Linda, of Lakewood, Colorado; and Darrel Lee Hensley, of Lee’s Summit; and four great-grandchildren, Nicole and Brittany, of Lakewood; Derek and wife, Tracy, of Overland Park, Kansas; and Kayla, of Harrisonville; and several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ernie; and two brothers, Forrest Leroy Weide in infancy and Uel Weide.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center.
