Kenneth R. Martin, 84, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Sunday, Jan. 24, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29 at First Christian Church in Warrensburg. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29 at the church with Rev. Jerry Basye officiating. Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville with full military honors provided by American Legion, Post #131 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2513. Pallbearers will be Ken’s grandchildren, Caleb Siegfried, Chad Siegfried, Michael Buente, Melissa Moore, Matt Moore and Hunter Martin.
Kenneth was born Dec. 8, 1931 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Elmer and Charlsie (Snellings) Martin. He graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1948. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1949. In 1950, Ken left the National Guard to enlist in the United States Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic. Upon being honorably discharged from active duty, he returned to Missouri. He was united in marriage to Mary F. Myers on July 3, 1955, in Tuscumbia, Missouri.
Ken rejoined the National Guard. He served full time as an aircraft systems foreman in the Guards Aviation Facility at Whiteman Air Force Base until retiring after 29 years of service. After retiring, he was employed with Elliott Electric for several years. Ken was a member of First Christian Church, having served as a deacon for many years. He was an active member of American Legion, Post 131 where he served many years with the Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Masons, Corinthian Lodge No. 265 AF & AM, having received his 50-year pin this year. Ken’s favorite hobbies were fishing, bowling and hunting. He especially enjoyed time spent with family.
Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Mary; two daughters, Pamela Miller and husband, Larry of Greenwood, Missouri, and Deborah Siegfried and husband, Wes of Centerview, Missouri; son, Timothy Martin of Warrensburg, Missouri; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and four sisters.
Memorial contributions are suggested to American Legion Post 131.
