W. Richard Zink, 85, of Knob Noster, died Saturday, Jan. 18 at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the Knob Noster Christian Church with Reverend David Jordan officiating.   The family will receive friends from noon until service time Wednesday at the church.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Interment will follow at Knob Noster Cemetery with full military honors.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Knob Noster, Mo., the son of William Elmer and Grace (Busby) Zink Jr.
He was united in marriage to Peggy C. Wampler in Knob Noster on Aug. 22, 1948. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 2003.
Richard was a 1945 graduate of Knob Noster High School. He then worked as a teacher and coach part time and received a bachelor’s degree from Central Missouri State University in 1950. Richard then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military career, he taught one year of school in Dixon, Mo., in 1952. Richard then served as the Knob Noster Postmaster retiring after 30 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed farming north of Knob Noster until 1995. Richard was a member of the Knob Noster Christian Church for more than 50 years and served as an elder.
He is survived by his son, Rick Zink, and partner Laurie MacKay of Lee’s Summit; his daughter, Teresa Minor, and husband, Arvil, of Lee’s Summit; his brother, Charlie Zink, and wife, Mary Beth, of Clinton, Mo.; his sister, Elsie Hill, of Montgomery, Ala.; his granddaughters, Tess Bassing, Jennifer Fredrickson and Katie Zink; his great-grandsons, A.J. and Tanner Bassing, and Cane and Brock Fredrickson.
Richard was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ted, James, Roy Edward and John Franklin Zink; and two sisters, Wilma Grace Zink and Alice Pearl Brooks.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Show Me Christian Youth Home in La Monte, MO, or the Knob Noster Christian Church and both can be left in care of the funeral home.
