Education panel plans meetings throughout Missouri

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., AP) — A Missouri House committee studying possible changes to education policy is planning meetings throughout the state this fall.
Committee members plan hearings in September in St. Charles, St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Branson and Joplin. Meetings are scheduled for October in Hannibal, Maryville, Kansas City, Warrensburg and Columbia.
The House Interim Committee on Education plans to deal with topics such as student transfers, early childhood education, educator evaluations, Common Core standards and school safety.
Republican House member Steve Cookson, of Poplar Bluff, is the chairman of the interim committee. Cookson says committee members want to hear Missourians’ thoughts on ways to strengthen the education system.
