2 Mo. ballot measures approved for circulation

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., AP) — Supporters of two proposed amendments to the Missouri Constitution can begin collecting signatures to get the measures on a statewide ballot.
The secretary of state’s office on Wednesday said the initiative petitions on campaign contributions and the use of public money for religious purposes met state standards for circulation.
Missouri repealed its limits on campaign contributions in 2008. The new proposal would cap donations to candidates for statewide office or the Legislature at $2,600.
The other amendment would repeal Missouri’s ban on using state or local funds for religious purposes or for support of schools and colleges controlled by religious organizations.
Both measures are backed by the Missouri Roundtable for Life and could go on the 2014 ballot if enough registered voters sign the petitions.
