(ST. JOSEPH, Mo., AP) — Missouri Western State University is starting a School of Fine Arts in response to increased interest from students.
The school in St. Joseph is looking for a founding dean for the new school.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports (http://bit.ly/1bvmg7O) enrollment in theater/cinema courses rose 60 percent in the last three years, while enrollment in art and music increased about 20 percent during the same period. About 500 students have declared a major in the arts.
Provost Jeannie Daffron says the school has received about 55 applications for the dean’s position. Some applicants will be invited to the school in the next few weeks for interviews.
Currently, 25 full-time faculty members teach art, theater, music, dance and cinema. The school also offers a master of applied arts in digital arts.
