Mo. soldier awarded Purple Heart

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo., AP) — A soldier from northern Missouri has been awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Troy Green, who lives in the Cameron area, received the medal during a ceremony Tuesday in St. Joseph.
The St. Joseph News Press reports (http://bit.ly/YEomRQ) that Brig. Gen. Stephen Cotter, Missouri’s assistant adjutant general for air, pinned the medal on Green.
Green, a member of the 139th Security Forces Squadron, was caught up in a Taliban attack in 2011 and was knocked unconscious after an explosion. After he revived, Green moved from the barracks to the unit headquarters, where he provided fire direction for responding units and protection for the command staff.
He’s also been awarded two Army Commendation medals and the Army Combat Action Badge.
