A package left at the Warrensburg Police Department caused the lobby and surrounding area to be blocked off Friday afternoon.
According to a Warrensburg Police Department Facebook post, a man walked into the station around 3:15 p.m. Friday and said he placed a bag containing a bomb near the flagpole in front of the station.
Chief Rich Lockhart said the man who placed the bag was released following questioning. He said the Missouri Highway Patrol Bomb Squad handled the package, which did not contain a bomb.
“He said someone gave it to him and he brought it to us so the FBI could pick it up,” Lockhart said in an email.
Lockhart said the police station reopened and charges will not be requested due to a lack of a threat or a bomb.
