R-VI District serves 21,000 meals over summer

The Food Services director for the Warrensburg R-VI School District is scheduled to present an overview of the district’s summer feeding program and an update of its free- and reduced-lunch program during Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.
The district provided more than 21,000 meals during the summer, according to district information. Heather Wirsig is scheduled to discuss the summer program during the board meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Warrensburg Agriculture Education Building on Ridgeview Drive.
The feeding program operated 57 days out of the summer and added two new sites. These sites were located at the Reese Educational Center and the Chilhowee United Methodist Church. A total of 8,117 breakfasts were served and 13,085 lunches were served. Also, a total of 5,015 meals were sold to Warrensburg Parks and Recreation, which added provided $6,600 in revenue, according to district information.
The district’s free- and reduced-lunch program saw a 7 percent reduction in the number of participating students from 38 percent to 31 percent, according to district information.
In other business, the board is scheduled to vote on hiring a new full-time paraprofessional position at Warrensburg High School for a returning student who requires one-on-one assistance due to a visual impairment.
