(KIRKSVILLE, Mo., AP) — Kirksville’s city council has given the go-ahead for residents looking to downsize to a smaller — much smaller — home.
The Kirksville Daily Express (http://bit.ly/1IKEV42) reports that the council on Monday approved construction and placement of “mini-houses,” though they must be limited to mobile home parks in the northeast Missouri town.
Kirksville developer Doyle Dover requested the variance for the small, one-room structures built on skids and anchored to the ground. The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval.
The ordinance change requires “habitable space” to be no less than 400 square feet. The previous ordinance required single-family homes to be at least 750 square feet.
