(CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., AP) — Three people are facing municipal charges in the southeast Missouri town of Cape Girardeau after walking into a mall while openly displaying guns.
The incident happened Saturday afternoon at West Park Mall. Police Sgt. Jason Selzer says no one was hurt or threatened, but several people were frightened after the trio entered with guns. Selzer says one had weapons strapped across the chest. Another had a gun strapped to the ankle.
Selzer says it wasn’t clear why the suspects wanted to display the weapons, but authorities do not believe they intended to shoot anyone.
Concealed weapons are legal, but Selzer says openly displaying guns in that manner violates a city ordinance. All three suspects — two women and a man — were released pending court dates.
