Warrensburg HS softball falls to Clinton, 14-6

(Clinton, Mo.) — Maddie Rhone did her best to will the Lady Tigers (1-1, 1-1) to a win with a three-hit game, but they dropped a 14-6 contest to Clinton on Tuesday in Clinton.
Three of the Lady Tigers’ runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Rhone. She tripled in the first inning and singled in the third and seventh innings.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Brittany Marr started the rally for the Lady Tigers with a single. Maddie tripled, scoring Hunter Atkins, Mataya Lowry and Macy Hoyer. More runs came home for the Lady Tigers when Rhone scored on an RBI single by Bridget Cavuoti.
The Lady Tigers pushed across one run in both the second inning and the fourth. In the second, the Lady Tigers scored on an RBI double by Hunter, plating Mac Cunconan.
It didn’t take long for Clinton to respond as it scored four runs of its own in the second. Clinton didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring eight runs in the fifth inning when it scored on two doubles, a groundout, and two singles.
“We could walk away from this game disappointed,” Coach Dylan Hultman said after the game. “And we will. Put on the positive side all of our goals are still within our grasp. We need to clean some things up in practice and get back on the diamond and look to improve every day until districts.”
The JV squad won their game 2-1. They improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Lady Tigers will travel to Excelsior Springs next Wednesday for their next contest.
