Public to vote on Hall of Famous Missourians

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., AP) — Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones plans to allow the public to vote on whom to induct into the Hall of Famous Missourians.

The hall is a collection of bronze busts located in the Capitol and has traditionally honored people chosen by the House speaker.
Jones says he plans to accept nominations until Sept. 13 and then prepare a Top 10 list of candidates that visitors to Capitol could vote upon. He says the public will get to pick two people to be inducted and Jones will select a third. Voting will run through Oct. 13.
The Hall of Famous Missourians includes the likes of Harry Truman, Mark Twain and Walt Disney.
But many Democrats denounced former Republican House Speaker Steven Tilley when he inducted conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh last year.
