(LAWRENCE, Kan.) — The Central Missouri track and field teams competed against Division I talent on Friday at the Kansas Jayhawk Classic.
Senior Zak Thompson picked up UCM’s lone provisional mark, placing fourth in the shot put.
Thompson threw for a mark of 53-4 1/2, earning a provisional but falling just short of his season-high mark at last week’s UCM Invite. Thompson is ranked eighth in the nation and tops in the MIAA in the shot put. The Walnut Grove native also competed in the weight throw, finishing ninth with a toss of 52-10 1/2.
UCM’s distance athletes were featured at KU, as five Mules and Jennies competed in the mile run. Allie Rexroat (5:31.61) and Haley Russell (5:41.54) placed 15th and 26th, respectively. On the men’s side, Bryson Jarman placed 13th with a time of 4:32.50, followed by David Warnex, who finished 26th at 4:39.54. Senior Laban Sialo competed in the afternoon session, finishing second in the mile at 4:20.33.
Two Jennies earned top-20 finishes in the 3,000-meter run. Comelanie Wilson finished 11th, crossing the line at 11:04.11, while Colleen Grone finished 17th at 11:11.48. For the Mules, Austin Gott finished 23rd in the men’s 3,000 with a time of 9:15.72.
In the women’s 800-meter run, Alissa Kiel finished 10th with a time of 2:30.73. Haley Heuer finished 10th in the shot put, coming up just short of a provisional with a throw of 43 1/2.
The Mules and Jennies are back in action next week, when they host the UCM Mule Relays. The women’s events are set for Friday, followed by the men’s events on Saturday.
