McCoy honored as outstanding mathematics educator

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – A University of Central Missouri math professor was recently recognized as the outstanding post-secondary mathematics teacher in the state of Missouri by the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Ann McCoy, of Clinton, Mo., an associate professor of mathematics and coordinator of the mathematics education program at UCM, received the honor.
In addition, McCoy also was honored as the recipient of the annual LeRoy Sachs Award, which is presented by the MCTM annually to one mathematics teacher in the state. McCoy received the honors at the annual MCTM conference in Columbia Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
The LeRoy Sachs award was established in 1993 to recognize an individual who has given time, energy and expertise to benefit the organization and to promote the improvement of mathematics education across the state of Missouri. It is named in honor of LeRoy Sachs, a St. Louis educator who is nationally recognized for his excellent in teaching.
McCoy is in her seventh year on the faculty at UCM. Prior to joining the UCM faculty, she taught middle school mathematics and was an elementary mathematics resource teacher for the Clinton School District. She also is a master teacher and consultant for the Missouri Mathematics Leadership Academy.
She received her Ph.D. degree in curriculum and instruction and math education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and mathematics and master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and mathematics from UCM.
