(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — Senior Kayla Shain‘s goal on a cross from fellow senior Kelsie Hanson lifted 12th ranked Jennies soccer to a hard fought 1-0 shutout victory over Truman Thursday night in front of 493 fans at the South Recreation Complex.
The first period was a battle between two of the top ranked defenses in the MIAA as only three total shots were taken the entire half. The Jennies (13-1-3, 9-0-2 MIAA) capitalized on the second shot of the match in the 19th minute though. Hanson came charging down the right side of the field and sent a perfectly placed cross pass into the center of the box where Shain controlled the ball and blasted it past Truman goalkeeper Emily Bozdeck for her fourth goal of 2012, giving the Jennies the 1-0 lead.
Both teams held each other scoreless the rest of the match giving the Jennies the 1-0 win, avenging a 1-0 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs (11-5-1, 7-4 MIAA) earlier this season in Kirksville.
The Jennies outshot Truman in the match 8-6 and held a commanding 5-1 lead in corner kicks taken.
Jennies goalkeeper Morgan Hartzler gained her fifth straight shutout in-goal for the Cardinal and Black, making three saves, improving her record between the pipes to 6-0-1.
The Jennies host the Lindenwood Lions on senior night at 7 p.m. Saturday in the final MIAA match of the season and have a chance to clinch its third straight MIAA regular season title.
