'The Nutcracker' hits Hendricks Hall this weekend

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – A holiday classic is coming to the University of Central Missouri.
Center Stage Academy is hosting “The Nutcracker” production Dec. 19-20 at Hendricks Hall on the UCM campus.
The production is complete with dancing toys, mischievous mice, waltzing flowers and sparkling snowflakes and is under the direction of Ballet Director Amy Gilchrist.
Join Clara (Leah Landwehr), her enchanted Nutcracker (Colin Frederick), and a cast of some 150 local dancers, under the instruction of ballet faculty Amy Gilchrist and Maggie Hartman, as they battle the evil mouse king (Jayden Allen) and embark on a thrilling adventure with the Sugar Plum Fairy (Rachel Grinde) to the Land of Sweets.
“It’s wonderful to watch our students push themselves to rise to the advanced level of technique this production demands,” said school director Jennifer Renfrow in a news release. “The performances are going to be beautiful and I am so grateful to be providing this cherished holiday tradition locally for families in our community who otherwise would have to drive long distances to experience a night at the ballet.”
The performances are set for 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Hendricks Hal.
For more information about the show or to purchase tickets, call Center Stage Academy at 660-747-6133. Tickets will also be available at the door for $12 per seat.
