(KANSAS CITY, Mo., AP) — President Barack Obama is prodding Congress to close corporate tax loopholes and take other action before going on summer break this week instead of trying to sue him.
House Republicans are poised to vote to authorize a lawsuit against the president for overstepping his constitutional authority. The White House is calling it a “stunt” and says Obama plans to address it in a speech Wednesday at Kansas City’s historic Uptown Theater.
The White House says he will argue that lawmakers instead should take actions like closing tax loopholes that encourage corporations to move operations overseas. Obama says the “tax inversions” are wrong even if they’re legal.
