No. 8 Jennies and Lopers draw Sunday afternoon

(KEARNEY, Neb.) The Jennies soccer team battled Nebraska-Kearney to a 1-1 draw after playing two extra-time periods Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.
The Jennies are now 4-0-2 and 1-0-1 in the MIAA.
The Lopers struck first in the match, getting a goal from Montanna Hosterman in the 20th minute to take an early 1-0 lead and give the Jennies their first deficit of the season. Hosterman scored on a free kick from 40 yards out that took a friendly bounce off the crossbar and dropped straight down, just over the white line.
The Jennies found an equalizer late in the second half to knot the match up, 1-1. In the 72nd minute, junior Becky Lackey controlled a pass from fellow junior Carly Stanley in the left portion of the box and slid the ball past Kearney goalie Marissa Niday from 5 yards out. That was Lackey’s team-high fourth goal of the season and was Stanley’s first assist of the season.
Jennies junior goalkeeper Jessica Grindstaff had four saves in-goal, allowing only one goal on five shots faced, while playing all 110 minutes of the match. Her overall record is now 2-0-2.
The Jennies return home Thursday afternoon, hosting an MIAA match against Washburn beginning at 4 p.m.
