Mules wrestling places three at Midwest Classic

(Indianapolis, Ind.) — The Central Missouri Mules had three placewinners at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., on Sunday, and placed 11th out of 29 teams.
Cagnina won his first match with a 20-5 technical fall, followed by two major decisions, 15-4 and 11-0. In the semifinals, he recorded a 4-2 win over sixth-ranked Edwin Cooper of Upper Iowa. In the finals, Cagnina beat No. 4-ranked Cameryn Brady of Indianapolis with a 8-0 major decision.
Collins won his first match by decision, but then was pinned 4:07 into his second match by top seeded Alex Johns of Indianapolis. Collins split his next two matches, before winning the seventh-place match with a pin at 3:54 over Dalton Howard of Ashland.
Thomson lost his first match of the tournament, but won the following three with two decisions and a pin at 2:10. Thomson fell to Dalton Westerland of Upper Iowa in the consolation quarterfinals, but rebounded to win his final match, 10-3 over Jake Piatt of Ashland.
The Mules are back in action at the UCM Duals on Jan. 5 in Warrensburg, Mo.
