UCM announces 2013-14 Hall of Fame Induction Class

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The University of Central Missouri has announced the 2013-14 class of the UCM Athletic Hall of Fame. Eight individuals and five teams make up this year’s induction class, which will be enshrined on Saturday, March 1.
Joining the Hall of Fame this season are Todd Devoe (football, 2001-02), Jennifer Drum-McClaflin (women’s track & field, 2004-06), Matt Norfleet (baseball, 1996-99), Tina Peak-Balser (women’s bowling, 2004-07), Brian Pesko (men’s basketball, 1982-84), Joe Strada (baseball, 2002-04) and Kaci Young(volleyball, 2002-05).
Former Jennies volleyball coach Dr. Peggy Martin (1975-08) goes into the Hall of Fame this year in the coaching category, as will five of her teams. The1986, 1988, 1989, 1998 and 1999 Jennies Volleyball teams will all be enshrined as well.
Todd Devoe
Football, 2001-02
Todd Devoe was a two-time first-team All-MIAA wide receiver. He is the only player in Central Missouri history to record two 1,000 yard receiving seasons. He has the fourth most receiving yards in a single season (1,089) and third and fourth most touchdowns receiving (12 in 2002 and 11 in 2001) in a season and is second in career touchdown receptions (23) and average yards per reception (20.52 per catch). He also boasts the longest touchdown catch in school and MIAA history of 99 yards against Minnesota Duluth in the Mineral Water Bowl. He also earned All-America honors in track & field for Central Missouri as a member of the 4×400 meter relay team in 2002. Following his career at Central Missouri, he went on to play in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos.
Jennifer Drum-McClaflin
Women’s Track & Field, 2004-06
Drum-McClaflin was a two time National Champion in the indoor high jump (2004 and 2006) and a five time All-American for the Jennies Track & Field team. She earned All-America honors three times in indoor high jump (2004, 05, 06) and two All-America honors in the outdoor high jump in 2005 and 2006.
Matt Norfleet
Baseball, 1996-99
Norfleet was a first-team All-American in 1999 for the Mules Baseball program. He was a two-time first-team All-MIAA selection and Co-MVP of the league in 1999. He earned Region Player of the Year honors in 1999 as well. He ranks third in school history in career doubles (59), is tied for fifth in RBI (179), tied for eighth in home runs (26) and has 212 career hits.
Tina Peak-Balser
Women’s Bowling, 2004-07
Tina Peak was a four-time All-American for Jennies Bowling, earning  first team honors three times. She was the National TenPin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III National Rookie of the Year and was a two-time NTCA Academic All-American. She was the 2007 Dr. Peggy Martin Award winner as the outstanding UCM Senior Female Student-Athlete. As a freshman, she bowled a perfect 300 game at the NCAA Championships, helping UCM to a national runner-up finish. She was named to the 2005 NCAA Championships All-Tournament Team and ranks third in school history with a 202.12 career average. She was named to 18 All-Tournament Teams during her career, including four times as Tournament MVP. She was a member of Junior Team USA in 2007.
Brian Pesko
Men’s Basketball, 1982-84
Pesko was the starting point guard for the 1984 Mules Basketball National Championship team. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the regional tournament that year, even after being released from the hospital two hours before tip-off of the regional championship game. He scored 55 points at the Final Four, including a career-high 30 in the semifinal win over North Alabama and 25 in the championship game win over St. Augustine’s, earning all-tournament team honors. He ranks ninth all-time at UCM with 263 career assists, while his 160 assists during the 1983-84 season are the fifth most in a single season in school history. During his two years in a Central Missouri uniform the Mules went 52-10.
Joe Strada
Baseball, 2002-04
Strada was a three-time first team All-MIAA selection for Mules Baseball and a three-time All-Region selection. He earned second team All-America honors in 2003 helping the Mules to the National Championship. He is the UCM and MIAA all-time leader in RBI with 214. He ranks fourth in school history with 22 doubles in a single season and seventh for triples in a season with seven. He is 10th in UCM history in career hits with 239. He also ranks second in career triples with 16, sixth in home runs with 27, seventh in doubles with 50 and 10th in runs scored with 190. He led the Mules in batting average in 2002 (.387) and 2003 (.415).
Kaci Young
Volleyball, 2002-05
Young was a two-time All-American and three-time All-MIAA selection for Jennies Volleyball. She is the Jennies all-time leader in assists with 5,687. That number ranks as the fifth best in MIAA history. She is one of only five Jennies to surpass the 5,000 assist mark. Young also holds the school records for assists per set in a career at 10.94 and in a single season at 13.04. She is one of only four Jennies to earn National Player of the Week honors.
Dr. Peggy Martin
Volleyball, 1975-08
Dr. Peggy Martin became the winningest volleyball coach in NCAA Division II history with a career record of 1,064-281-8 (.789) in 33 seasons leading the Jennies program. She won 19 consecutive MIAA titles from 1982 to 2000. She captured seven regional championships and 22 different Coach of the Year honors, including the 1987 Division II National Coach of the Year when she led the Jennies to a 42-4 record and a national runner-up finish. She led the Jennies to the NCAA Tournament in each of her final 26 seasons and to the postseason in all but one season she was the head coach. She coached 148 All-MIAA players and 41 All-Americans during her tenure. In addition to her illustrious career as the Jennies volleyball coach she also led the Jennies softball program to a 174-156 record and two MIAA titles in 11 years at the helm. She was twice named MIAA Softball Coach of the Year. Martin was also an assistant coach for Jennies Basketball for the 1976-77 season and served as assistant athletics director from 1986-88. She is a member of the MIAA Hall of Fame, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame, and the Mobile (Ala.) Sports Hall of Fame.
1986 Jennies Volleyball
The 1986 Jennies volleyball team finished 33-7 overall and a perfect 16-0 in MIAA play en route to the MIAA Championship. The Jens placed second at the NCAA Regional and were ranked No. 6 in the final AVCA Poll. The 1986 squad had four All-Americans.
1988 Jennies Volleyball
The 1988 Jennies volleyball team went 32-6 overall and a perfect 16-0 in MIAA play to capture the MIAA championship. The Jens captured the regional championship and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight where they placed fifth. The Jennies had two All-Americans in 1988 and finished the season ranked seventh in the final AVCA poll.
1989 Jennies Volleyball
The 1989 Jennies volleyball team went 40-6 overall and a perfect 19-0 in MIAA play to capture the conference title. The Jennies finished second at the NCAA Regional that season and were ranked No. 5 in the final AVCA poll.
1998 Jennies Volleyball
The 1998 Jennies volleyball squad was 27-5 overall with a perfect 16-0 MIAA record en route to the conference crown. The Jennies finished third at the NCAA regional that season and were ranked No. 7 in the final AVCA poll.
1999 Jennies Volleyball
The 1999 Jennies volleyball team finished 27-8 overall and 15-1 in conference play to capture the 18th of their 19 consecutive MIAA titles. The Jens finished third at the NCAA Regional that season.
With the 2013-14 class, the Central Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame now consists of 205 individuals and 58 teams.
The Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Saturday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Sandra Temple Elliott Union Ballroom. Tickets are $12 per person and may be purchased by calling the UCM Athletic Office at 660-543-4250 before February 21.
