Jennies volleyball wins fourth straight match

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The No. 5 Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team beat Northwest Missouri State at home Tuesday night in four sets, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-15. The Jens hit .270 through the match, with 58 kills, eight serving aces and eight blocks.
In the start of set one, the Bearcats kept the score close, with nine tie scores in the first 20 points of the set. The Jennies took the lead at 11-10, and stayed ahead for the rest of the set. Central Missouri won the three points following 11-10 to take a 14-10 lead, with kills from Carly Sojka and Taylor Goodness and a service ace from Julia Bates. The Jennies won five more points in a row at 17-14, two of which were serving aces by Courtney Cornell, to make the score 20-14. The Jennies kept a six point lead over Northwest for the remainder of the set, Bates finishing the set with a kill. Bates hit .500 in the first set, with two kills, seven assists and a service aces. Becca Blaise also hit .500 in the set with three kills, and a block.
Bates had two kills to start out set two, giving the Jennies a two point lead. Northwest Missouri tied the Jennies several times through the set, but was not able to take the lead until they again tied the score at 19-19. The Bearcats scored the following point for their first lead of the set. The Jennies scored the following two points to tie the score and regain their lead. Northwest was able to score only two more points before the set was finished. Annie Reilly had 12 digs in the second set. Goodness had 5 kills in the set, and hit .444, with two blocks.
In set three, the Jennies had the lead for a majority of the set. There were six tie scores in the set before the Bearcats again tied the Jennies at 14-14, and led Central Missouri for the rest of the set. Sojka had five kills and hit .417 in the third set. Bates had 12 assists.
The Jennies started the fourth set of the match with a three point lead, and kept the lead through the set. The Bearcats were unable to even tie the Jennies in the fourth set. The match ended with two serving aces from Reilly. Blaise had six kills in the last set of the match, and hit .667. Bates had another 12 assists.
In four sets Reilly had 27 digs, and three serving aces. Bates had 43 assists and six kills, with a .500 hitting percentage. Haley Thompson had ten kills and three blocks in the match. Sojka was one kill short of her sixth double-double this season. Sojka finished the match with nine kills and 10 digs. Goodness had the team high 18 kills, with three blocks. Blaise had 11 kills, three blocks and a serving ace. Maddie Jones had four kills and four blocks in the match.
The Jennies will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday to take on the Missouri Western Griffons. The match will begin at 7 p.m. and take place in the MWSU Fieldhouse.
