(SHELL KNOB, Mo., AP) — Organizers of the longest continuously running bass tournament on Table Rock Lake are hoping it can be rescheduled, after it was postponed because of the federal government shutdown.
The 34th annual Homer Sloan Buddy Bass Tournament was canceled last weekend because participants couldn’t get access to boat ramps, campgrounds and other sites operated by the Army Corps of Engineers.
The tournament raises funds for the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. Executive director Karen Elsey says businesses and residents in Shell Knob were ready to put on the tournament themselves but the Army Corps revoked the tournament’s regatta permit on Thursday.
The Joplin Globe reports about 120 fishermen from Missouri and surrounding states were expected for the tournament.
