Bluegrass festival returns to State Fair

(SEDALIA, Mo.) –The third annual Show-Me Bluegrass Festival returns to the Missouri State Fair Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today that the day of music will feature more than 10 bluegrass bands, sponsored by AgriMissouri, according to a news release.
“We strive to provide activities at the State Fair the entire family can enjoy, and this festival certainly fills this bill,” Wolfe said.
More than 10 bands will be featured in this year’s lineup, including River Berry, Dixie Union, Bluegrass Missourians, Charlie & the Girls, The Sterlings, Misty Mountain, The Baker Family, The Farnum Family, Sherman Mountain Boys, Whetstone and Charissa Mrowka and Country Cross, sponsored by Ford and Missouri Farm Bureau. Performance times and locations will be in the Daily Guides, available at the information booths located throughout the fairgrounds. A listing is also available at www.mostatefair.com.
Amateur musicians are also encouraged to showcase their talents during the Festival. A 4 p.m. jam session will be held in the Show-Me Tent for anyone bringing an instrument, followed by a banjo contest at 6 p.m. on the Touchstone Energy Stage.
The Oak Ridge Boys 40th Anniversary Tour performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Pepsi Grandstand. Tickets for the concert are $20 and $10 and are available at the Missouri State Fair Box Office, which is open noon to 6 p.m., through Wednesday. During the fair, the Box Office hours will expand to 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Special activities for seniors will also be offered Aug. 14, including dancing and bingo. Dance performances will include more than 225 entertainers from across Missouri showcasing their square dancing, line dancing and clogging skills in the Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Those seniors who prefer to dance themselves can also enter the Senior Dance Contest starting at 1 p.m. in the Mathewson Exhibition Center. The deadline to enter is noon that day and cash awards will be presented to the top three places in waltz, polka, jitterbug and two step categories.
A $2 gate admission discount will be available on senior and adult tickets Aug. 14, to those presenting a Sedalia Democrat newspaper front page fair banner.
