Since 1922, the mule has been the mascot for UCM. Over the years, many designs have come and gone before the current logo was chosen. But the current logo that we have is so ugly.
The current logo is a big, aggressive, red mule head. I understand we want people to think we’re scary, but, unfortunately, even our own students are scared. This guy is freaky. His big freaky teeth aren’t helping, either. This Mo is too much, and we need a new, more inviting Mo.
He’s far from the worst, though. There’s an older design of a really mean-looking mule who I presume is coughing for whatever reason. This Mo is just skin and bones. I don’t really know what they were thinking, representing our school with a sickly, coughing old mule. I’m very glad we got rid of this guy.
In around the 1970s, UCM started using a hyperrealistic logo of a mule. This design is actually in color! I don’t mind a black and white design, but it is quite cute that he’s actually brown. Plus, he has these really cute doe eyes that I personally just love. He has a really goofy face that I wouldn’t mind seeing posted up around campus.
There’s also a very similar design of another unusually realistic mule that stares into your eyes with the dumbest little doe eyes. This mule has no thoughts, and I’m here for it. This is probably my favorite design of the bunch, just for his silly ears and mindless stare. I love him.
Now, these next two designs are a little niche and hard to find, but I’m so glad that I did. I don’t know when UCM used these designs, but I love the cartoon style and the amount of personality they gave these two mules. The little jenny is so silly as she prances around, and the little bow on her tail is just adorable. I have no notes; she’s perfect. The cartoon mule is so goofy. He really embodies the idea of a stubborn mule in my eyes.
The last mule I have here was adopted around the 1940s, and he is potentially my favorite of all of these logos that I could find. He looks so happy while he’s just trotting along, and I love the simplicity of the design.
