Throughout my years of being in school, I have never thought that I needed artificial intelligence to help me out with my homework assignments. Sure, I have googled things and used a quizlet here and there, but why in the world would I want to use something that isn’t one hundred percent reliable?
Chat GPT launched Nov. 30, 2022. AI and Chat GPT have become so prominent in today’s society that I can’t seem to get rid of it. Most social media platforms have implemented AI in their videos, photos and searches, such as Instagram using Meta for searching and X (Twitter) using Grok for “clarification” on posts and coming up with dumb questions. Whether it’s the characters in the videos or the voices, none of it is real. The main issue is that it could be easy to spot now, but what about this time next year? Will it still be just as easy to spot or will AI continue to grow into something no one can differentiate from human work anymore?
Also, why has the media become so oversaturated with AI content? If you like one reel on Instagram of a grandma and a kangaroo fighting, it’s all you’ll ever see. Get it off my screen!
AI is made to create things beyond what our brain and hands could think of, but now it’s a “how crazy can this get” competition. Many artists from around the world have found their own art being copied from the annoying robot with no credit and used on different platforms and apparel.
AI has become not only prominent online and in the art world, but in movies, music, job searches, job interviews and beyond. Quinnica is an AI resume and interview practice website that is supposed to “enhance and prepare for student engagement and career readiness” but then gets half of the resume’s checklist wrong, doesn’t give real interview questions and gives no feedback afterwards. Why are you asking me about my high school pizza jobs three times in a row when I want to be a journalist?
Adrien Brody won best actor for his role in “The Brutalist,” which had people at a loss. How could he be the best actor in the category when he had to use AI in order to help him with his Hungarian accent? What happened to people training for months, maybe even years, to perfect an accent? With the use of AI, I can only see it as an easy out.
When it comes to creative projects, especially school projects or essays, I have seen students use Chat GPT to get started. What happened to going outside and touching some grass in order to get inspiration? Even a simple Google search is better than Chat GPT.
Within the last couple years of AI and Chat GPT being used so heavily, it seems like schools seem not to care as much about how it’s used, or even encourage students to use it to gain inspiration instead of helping them critically think and create on their own. The human brain can do so much more than Chat GPT and if we keep using the little robot in our phones, we will lose our creativity and individuality.
